Corner Desks- the Good, the Bad, the Ugly

In this article we shall be looking at two different computer desk designs, talking about the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Corner Computer Desk

The corner computer desk is an ideal solution for anyone who has limited floor space. They can be neatly placed in room corners where other desks are too large to fit, thereby maximizing space efficiency.

Should more space be requited, some designs allow you to extend the desk vertically, thereby proving you with additional vertical storage space.

If you have extra room, other designs will allow you to attach horizontal extensions, proving you with increased functionality and a large working surface area that is normally associated with a more traditional desk.

However one of the disadvantages of this design is that the user may feel somewhat claustrophobia, as they are "encased" in a corner. Although most people tend to find corner computer desks comfortable as it allows them to work without becoming distracted by their surroundings, so this may not be a disadvantage for everyone.

Another disadvantage is that these types of desks are designed to fit into corner space, which limits where they can be used.

Glass Computer Desks

Glass computer desks are one of the most recent and exciting advancements in desk design, providing the user with a stylish and modern looking working environment.

Despite what many people may think, glass desks can be just as sturdy as a traditional wooden desk. Typically they are constructed from several pieces of frosted or clear glass (depending on the design) which are supported by metal. Most will also have some form of cable management system, allowing computer wires to be neatly concealed from view.

Modular glass computer desks are also available, and will allow the user to upgrade and expand their existing arrangement. For example, adding more vertical and/or horizontal space, or adding holders for various accessories.

However one of the major disadvantages of glass desks is that they are very vulnerable to finger marks. This can mean a lot of time spent cleaning the desk, although more expensive models will include some kind of coating that minimizes these marks.

But you can never completely eliminate finger marks, so you should take this into consideration and decide if it is going to be a problem for you, before you purchase one.
